HIKE TO THE HILL: Saint Patrick’s Day in Ardpatrick was marked in a simple but special way, people young and old assembled at the Community Centre prior to 10am for “The Hike to the Hill” on foot. The morning was dry with a chilly breeze blowing from the East, on reaching the hilltop the air was much colder and the wind more penetrating on the exposed graveyard, the expansive historic monastery wall offered some degree of shelter. Tom Murphy delivered a fine talk on Saint Patrick and his alleged association with the site, he referred to Bishop John Fleming’s book on Ardpatrick published in 1978, in particular to the chapters dealing with Saint Patrick and Monastic Ardpatrick. Margaret Wallis as a finale played “Hail Glorious Saint Patrick” on the accordion with the big crowd joining in. All returned to base to be greeted by a welcome gush of warm air at the door, a hot cup of tea and refreshments provided by members of the Community Council, many thanks for the raffle prizes and donations to the box in the hall, a fine sum of €430.50 was raised all donated to the Parents Association towards school funds. People were delighted with the event, so colourful, memorable in many ways and so important in the modern Ireland to celebrate the unique heritage of our own place in our own way.
LADIES CLUB: There will be a meeting of Ardpatrick Ladies Club in the Community Centre at 8.00 pm on Monday 26th March. A representative of Country Clean will talk to us about recycling. All welcome.
TLC4: Good Friday, March 30 is the day and date for Limerick communities coming together to clean the road sides of the county. This is the fourth year of this great initiative which is sponsored by the J P MacManus. This year Ardpatrick like the past three years are participating through the Community Council/Tidy Towns organisations. Assembling at 10am in the Community Centre for instruction on safety aspects and to organise who will cover what areas, and also ensuring people will have High Visibility and equipment to safely clear our local roads of the rubbish others are throwing out of their vehicles as they pass.
